Scout @ Startup Weekend
As a proponent of alternative education, I wanted to use this VR hackathon to build something for other experiential learners stuck in classrooms. After pitching an idea for immersive textbooks, there were 8 people that joined the team and over the next 54 hours, we successfully built a working prototype where students got to live through a history class instead of reading about it. We also built a voice-powered "study buddy" using the Alexa skills kit, allowing students to ask questions about what they were learning in real time. With an environment and graphics from the Unity library, use of the Google Cardboard SDK, and a compelling pitch, we won the hackathon!
